Well, I have decided it is time for me to hang up my helmet! I have been thinking about when would be a good time to stop driving and with the cancellation for the events at Bonneville the decision was easier. I will be 79 when the next racing season rolls around, it is time. I had been pondering the decision for a while. My plan last year was to run the WOS event, hopefully make some decent runs, maybe touch 400 but that diid not happen as a result of my running over a mile marker and timing light. I decided to repair the car and take another stab at it this year. The wet salt this year scuttled my plans.
I am not sure how Bonneville will figure into my future at this point. I started building my first ‘liner in the late 70’s and it as been the one constant in my life since. I have met a lot of interesting people, made life long friends and experienced the highs and lows of racing. I have benefited from having a terrific family and friends that have helped me along the way and served as my crew. I have been a very lucky guy.
I hope to continue my involvement with Bonneville in some way, just not sure what that is at present. Of course I will have to make a decision whether to continue running the car with another driver or just leave it in my shop to polish occasionally and remind me of what a great adventure it has been.
Thanks to you all for your interest and support over the years.
More later…..
